Our tour begins with the Acropolis (sacred rock) and the
Parthenon, that was dedicated to the goddess Athena, Propylea, the entrance to the sacred area, the Erechtheion with the figures-statues of the Caryatides (Maidens) which were dedicated to both goddess Athena and the god Poseidon, the temple of Athena Nike(Victory). Under the the sacred rock is the first theatre in the world, Dionysus Theatre and next to it is the Odeum of Herodus Atticus.
At a short distance we'll visit Hadrian’s Arch, and proceed to the Temple of Olympian Zeus and you will make a short stop at the Panathenaic Stadium where the first Olympic Games of the modern era were held in 1896.
Then will see the House of Parliament, the Memorial to the Unknown Soldier where you will see the Evzones or drive by the Prime Minister's residence and then to the former Royal Palace, now Presidential Palace for a short stop to watch the changing of the national guards. Our tour will continue driving to the highest point of Athens, to Lycabettus Hill which you'll have a panoramic view of Athens.
Seeing the sites of Athens we are driving along the coastal road of the Saronic Gulf and passing through the most beautiful and wealthiest suburbs of Attica: Glyfada, Voula, Vouliagmeni, Varkiza, Agia Marina, Lagonisi and Anavissos with final stop at Cape Sounion. This site is the most popular half day trip from Athens.
At Cape Sounion you will admire the majestic view and the blue of the Aegean Sea. That’s were the historical sanctuary of Poseidon stands. The temple was destroyed by the Persians in 480 B.C. and a new one was built in its place in 440 B.C. by Pericles. As we return back to Athens, you have the opportunity to have either a coffee brake or lunch on the waterfront over looking the Saronic Gulf.
